Match Day 15 - Derby Della Laterna

by Kevin Walker on December 6, 2008

Interesting pairings on matchday 15 and the punters are going to have a tough time picking winners.

Inter, Juventus and Roma have midweek Champions League matches after this one.  Roma must win against Bordeaux if they hope to continue and the other clubs will require points if they hope to maintain their first place standing in each group.

Chievo vs Roma (watch LIVE on broadband)

I’m predicting Roma will carry the day against Chievo setting things up for an even better performance against Bordeaux on Tuesday. Chievo are coming off a rare win from match day 14 to opponents Udinese who haven’t been at their best.  Roma on the otherhand should be a different situation  having not lost in their last six.

Lazio vs Inter Milan  (watch LIVE on broadband)

Lazio faced AC Milan in the cup earlier this week (2-1 win a.e) and they used most of their regulars. No mid week game for Inter Milan but Adriano and Balotelli are out in the cold to join Crespo on the bench. Mourinho is again relying on Maicon, Samuel, Cordoba and Maxwell in defence. Chivu is fit so look for a second half substitution if Inter are leading, only Patrick Vieira is missing to injury.

Derby della Laterna

Matchday 15 is home to the Genoa Derby a forbidden time to lose.  Genoa will have the advantage as they have prepared themselves 100% for this match during the week, while Sampdoria had to travel to Belgium for an important UEFA Cup game with Standard Liege.  Sampdoria can ill afford to lose any of their current games, and no doubt this derby is the highest priority for both clubs. Since the foundation of Sampdoria in 1946 there have been 78 official matches, generally played in the Stadio Luigi Ferraris which is the home ground of both teams.

I agree that it would have been tough to determine the winner of that one.
