Sampdoria heartbreak in Champions League

by Niccolo Conte on August 25, 2010 · 0 comments

Today I was a Sampdoria fan, I cheered wildly for them, and I hated Werder Bremen with all my heart. It was partly nationalistic, and mostly due to the fact that I wanted to see Cassano in the Champions League. But Sampdoria didn’t make it through, they lost in the most heartbreaking of manners, taking […]

Serie A preview — Will Inter’s run end?

by Niccolo Conte on August 17, 2010 · 3 comments

How can you follow up a season which finished with a treble? After 5 years of dominance in Italy, Inter Milan finally dominated in Europe, and now Rafa Benitez is left with a tough job on his hands. Benitez wants to change a lot of things with Inter, starting with the playing syle. The Spanish […]

Serie A preview — Fiorentina might suffer

by Niccolo Conte on August 16, 2010 · 10 comments

Prandelli led Fiorentina to a very important point, but this season there will be no Champions League, and no Europa League for the Viola. While Mihajlovic has taken over, things don’t look very different with Fiorentina for this upcoming season, only two players were bought and only two players were sold/released. Probably the biggest factor […]

Rafa’s Eto’o: More goals

by Niccolo Conte on July 28, 2010 · 3 comments

Samuel Eto’o has won plenty of trophies, scored plenty of goals, and played in plenty of different systems. He has often played as a center-forward, finishing plays and scoring lots of goals, but for Inter Milan, under the orders of Jose Mourinho, Eto’o wasn’t used as a finisher, but maybe more as a supporter. Now […]

Is Mourinho Gone for Good?

by Niccolo Conte on May 22, 2010 · 1 comment

Inter Milan have won the Champions League, they’ve conquered the greatest trophy in European club football, breaking a curse of 44 years. The Champions League was the third and final trophy necessary for the famed treble which only 6 clubs have now done, including Inter Milan. And who led Inter to this glory? One man, […]

Inter Milan have won the Coppa Italia at the Stadio Olimpico against Roma in the final. While the 1–0 score-line might suggest a boring and defensive game, the match was full of excitement even after the 90 minutes. The first few minutes of the match were characterized by Sneijder coming off injured after a heavy […]

To me, the first half had three major themes. First, Nani wasting cross after cross, either sending them directly at Dida, or shockingly wide. Second, Beckham was largely absent from the first half, never doing anything dangerous. Third, if Beckham was “largely” absent, was Pirlo “utterly” absent? “Completely” absent? “Altogether” absent? “Fully” absent? I am not sure he had a touch in the first half.
