The whole team bar Pirlo looked awful in the first half, although Pazzini always looks hungry.

I think thought that this is the win the team needed to get the confidence back, its stopped the rot and I think they’ll play with a little less pressure and worry from now on.

Yes, the first half was fairly depressing, and Pirlo was a shining light with his fantastic playing. I probably should’ve given him a 7.5, but I’ve always liked Pirlo a bit further up the pitch.

    Thanks for the comment!

Azzurri have got to start raising the tempo of their game or else they will not be able to beat any of the better teams.

The squad is relatively young and has in Cassano a decent creative force and when Balotelli returns the team will be better. Pirlo is still important. However, the main problem is still the pace at which the Azzurri play and the speed with which the ball is moved around between the Italian players.

Italy definitely need Buffon back because he adds stability and confidence to the backline. This was a good first-step from the three points won perspective. Just as a note, Prandelli picked 10 players who have featured in some of the games under Lippi or at least were part of the squad. I stress that not too much must be written into the current squad. The main difference is Prandelli picking Cassano and Balotelli (injured vs Estonia) and choosing Bonucci as a starter. I wonder if D. Criscito will get a chance under Prandelli as I have doubts about Molinaro.

Yes, I sort of agree with you Rami, at the beginning of the match we saw some interesting exchanges which Cassano orchestrated. These were quick, snappy, and one touch which slightly bamboozled the Estonian defensive positioning. But these exchanges slowly died out as the match continued.

As for Molinaro, I’ve never liked him, I just remember this horrible step-over move he tried a few seasons ago for Juventus, and he tripped over himself losing the ball. It was very comical, but depressing. But maybe he’s become a bit more of a serious player, but I do prefer using Criscito in that position.

Thanks for the comments Rami and Rob!

        Niccolo,

I am in agreement with you, I’d definitely pick Criscito ahead of Molinaro because he’s simply younger and better. I am not sure what Prandelli finds in Molinaro. To be fair, I have not seen him play since moving to the Bundesliga but he was mediocre with Italy and did not do anything impressive. Indeed, he was a ‘comical’ defender while with Juventus.
