Adidas hit another high with the 2008-2009 presentation suit series, receiving a Serie A Talk 9.0 product rating!!!

The Pros

I’ve had this suit for the last 2 months (courtesy of soccerpro.com) wearing it everywhere outside and inside the house. During my indoor training routine the suit’s lightweight construction and formotion cut wasn’t constrictive or caused me to overly perspire. 

 I was clearing snow from my driveway last several days, and surprisingly in -10 celsius weather the mesh lined pants/trousers stood up keeping me warm .  The pre-suit is a very easy and enjoyable fit never mind an attention getter with those wanting your opinion on AC Milan.

Lets look at presentation suit details,

• 100% polyester plain weave, ForMotion system,
• mesh lined jacket and mesh lined pants. The jacket has a funnel neck, contrasting panels, 3 stripe branding
• frontal zip, pockets on sides, straight top and trousers bottom, 
  bottom leg zips; Drawcord on elastic waistband,
• Adidas brandmark on left thigh;  embroidered Adidas logos
  embroidered AC Milan Club Crest on left chest and on right thigh, officially club licensed product
• embroidered Rossoneri knick on the back collar (very nice, has that Ferrari feeling)

The Cons

This review would have been a 10 out of 10 if not for two drawbacks,

• the price tag of ~$110 to $120US
• the pants managed to do well in both cold and hot temperatures but the fabric doesn’t look to be water repellent. Training in rainy weather would quickly become less enjoyable

Final Words

The Adidas AC Milan presentation suit comes in at least two colour variations (see pictures), and Adidas has also released  versions of the suit for other club partners including, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich.  If you are an active player, travelling fan or simply a couch potato wanting to support your team from home in comfort, take a look at the Adidas presentation suit or any of the other available SoccerPro.com training suits

I, for one, am a person that is quite complicated when it comes to getting a new pair of boots.  I have bought everything from the classic boots (aka styles similar to the Adidas Copa Mundial) to the metal cleats (in order to play for rugby and football) and I was never able to find that comfort zone.   That is until I got a hold of the Nike Mercurial Vapor IV FG.  These boots are at the vanguard of lightweight performance football boot. It has the complete package- it is Ferrari sleek and iPhone chic.  I am not saying putting on these boots will automatically put a person in the running for the FIFA World Player of the Year; just that there are small differences in the game.

What’s So Special?

People that play football always look at getting a boot where you can “feel” the ball.  This is key for those of you that are players that pass before you shoot.  Another unique factor is that top part of the boot has increased surface areas that cover the laces that offer additional ball contact area.  Additional ball contact area means better contact as well as better control.
The soft, supple TEIJIN synthetic leather adjusts to every curve and lining of the foot.  Regardless of how big or how particular your feet are, these boots will accommodate to it. One word to my wide-footed brethren…take some extra time to break in your Vapors.  I know I am kinda splitting hairs on this one, but if you have a wider foot (those of you who have one can relate) the shoe for the most part run loner and a bit on the narrow side, so when it comes time to order your boot try to look for a wide size (if available).  If you are one that prefers a roomier fit, try to order your normal size.  For those of you that like the snug fit, order a half size down.  You will see that the extra time you spent breaking them in will be quite worth it.
Whenever I play, I will be more on the defensive end of the pitch.  I will play at defensive midfield or as a back; sometimes I will come from the right.

“ Aww, come on… this shoe is not for a defender.”

It might be what you are all saying, but it accommodates them as well.
That’s why the Nike Vapor SL’s midsole become so important.   The stability that it offers is second to no other boot I have tried in my life.  The balance it offers in turn helps with acceleration.  The technology is in the shoes’ s revolutionary internal chassis.  The chassis is able to balance weight effectively and along with the contoured sock liner and its EVA inserts reduces stud pressure.

Overall it is a shoe marketed to the fast wingers or players that have that extra gear. Ok, you figured me out.  I confess, I am not one to be looked at and can be seen on a poster out-dribbling Cristiano Ronaldo.   But on the defensive side you have to have speed in order to cut angles, turn, and even break out on the attack.  Balance is key.  To be a defender (a good one, not just the guy that tries to break legs) and not have balance is like being at a bar with no music- it’s a losing proposition.

Another thumbs up for PUMA, not sure what more I can say about PUMA’s Aptolast feature as I really love this all stitch design the feeling is extremely form fitting. The boots never leave your feet and are like a second skin. Another great feature is the upper made up of mesh and microfiber for light weight and breathability, my feet didn’t overheat in these babies.

This product preview is not especially fantastic when it comes to available colour options but there is a very nice white with blue strip PUMA v1.08 trainer made with the Azzurri, Italy national side in mind. The King XL FG Ruby is a 40th year anniversary special edition boot, designed to commemorate the iconic career of the PUMA King boot line.

Based on the career of Eusébio (the Black Pearl), one of football’s greatest players, the edition features the years “1968-2008″ below the King logo and comes in a red colour having two equally important origins; it is the traditional gem colour for a 40th anniversary and is the primary country colour of Eusebio’s beloved Portugal.

The King is Born 

The idea for the King boot was born after Eusébio scoring nine goals at the 1966 World Cup, worked with Puma to develop a signature football boot which debuted two years later. Over the years, the King became a legend and was worn by other legends including Brazil’s Pele, Argentina’s Maradona and Dutch maestro Johan Cruyff.

From PUMA literature, this newest addition to the Puma King range includes classic lines and traditional styling, but with updated materials, enhanced features and new design details.  The King XL contains a lightweight TPU injected outsole with fixed moulded studs, suitable for use on firm and hard surfaces.

Aptolast features conform to the natural curvatures of the foot, offering an extreme all over snug fit.  The boot also has a full grain leather upper which provides that traditional look.

I liked the traditonal look and feel of this boot, it tends to be a bit bigger and heavier than several of the newer boots coming out this year but the all leather exterior creates a great feel and the stud design provides good footing on a wide variety of field conditions. (discovered that during testing) This is a limited edition boot so not too many to go around but if you aren’t into the ruby red colour the King XL does come in a black edition.

Finally, the King XL ships with several extras including an all black leatherette King boot bag containing leather food, brush and polish cloth as well as an anniversary ruby booklet with the complete story of the PUMA-Eusebio connection.

Puma’s latest boot design the v1.08 is fantastic. The moment I put it on the feeling was sheer comfort. An all-stitch design with a two piece construction outsole helps to keep the weight down and provides that snug pleasurable fit.

The light weight upper has textile material with a reinforced microfiber layer for improved durability,  enhanced speed and lightness. I really like the off-center lacing and tongue construction, it allows for a smooth surface feel and absent is any pinching across the top of the forefoot, you really feel the ball when striking.

However, the v1.08′s real gem is inside with it’s AptoLast feature.
AptoLast provides a glove-like fit by following the contours of your foot and moulding to the wearer. Additionally the carbon fiber chassis makes for the ultimate backbone ensuring stability and support with it’s embedded carbon fibers and multi-density framework.

Weighing a mere 7.6 ounces while offering stability and ultimate comfort without sacrificing lightness, the v1.08 is all in all a striker’s dream come true.
